Wednesday, October 18, 2006 - Always We Begin Again

So, as I hinted in a post last week, we have now officially started work on our 4th album. We spent a Saturday afternoon at the studio of Adrian Zavala (you may remember him from a performance on guitar with Drop Trio at the 2005 Watermelon Festival).

Our approach on this new album is different from anything we've done before: we start with a handful of sessions at different studios around Texas, playing all improv. Then we take the results of those sessions and edit them into a single album. So far, sounds like Leap, right? Here's the difference - once we've got everything assembled into an album, then we turn around and learn the whole thing - and then re-record a new interpretation of it as the "real" album.

Sounds ambitious and / or crazy, I know. But if the results are anything like what we got last weekend, it'll be worth it. Here's a clip from the first improv track from the session.

And here are some more photos.

Saturday, October 14, 2006 - EMusic

Any Emusic subscribers out there? If you are, check it out - you can now download Cezanne on Emusic.

Not familiar with Emusic? They've been selling music downloads since 1999, years before iTunes made it mainstream. (Don't worry iTunes, you know we love ya. You too, outbound music & magnatune.) I was a subscriber for a long time, and they have a KILLER jazz collection, tons of cool back catalog stuff. Worth looking into.

Thursday, October 12, 2006 - Houston-town

We had a good bunch of shows in Houston over the past week. Two (unannounced) shows at Brasil:

A show at Helios:

A recording session at Adrian Zavala's Studio, starting work on our new album (more on that soon):

And a show with Blendt at Texas House Concerts. All shows were great, especially Helios (the vibe at that place is out of control). Thanks to everybody who came out!

Thanks to Groovehouse for the photos!

Wednesday, October 04, 2006 - A little feedback

Got 5 minutes to spare? Give us a little anonymous feedback, eh?

Monday, October 02, 2006 - The Austin and The Oklahoma

We played in three great cities this weekend. Here are some Pics from the trip

In Austin we had the privilege of being on 90.5 KUT with Jay Trachtenberg. We played three tunes live in the studio, discussed the band's history (and future) and the radness of Prog. Rock. Click below to listen to the show.

>>Live on KUT<<

That evening we played the Elephant Room in Austin. Our friend John Branch sat in for a few tunes on guitar, and rocked the house. Thanks to everyone who came out and made us feel welcome.

On Friday we spent close to 10 hours in the van to get to Tulsa, Oklahoma. We played with our friend's Harmonious Monk to a small crowd of sushi lovers. Harmonious Monk asked Ian to sit in, and played a really rad tune.

Saturday we headed 70 miles west to Stillwater, Oklahoma. The short drive gave us plenty of time to hang out in town before show time. Gpf proved that he is the smartest in the band by defeating Ian in chess. I proved that I'm the dumbest by not playing. We got to Mike's College Bar early to set up and learned that the headliner had cancelled. So, we played two full sets to an enthusiastic crowd.

By the way, we just got in some new DT t-shirts. Let us know if you want one.
