Monday, February 27, 2006 - Naps are Awesome

Last week was rad. We made some new music and new friends. Nuje and I are trying hard to lose one annoying new friend, though. Huge thanks to everyone that made it out to support Richard last night.

Last night, Ian sat in with Lazy, Houston's finest Deep Purple tribute band. Just between you and me and the internets, Ian sure can scream like a little girl.

UPDATE: Steve Steele (from Lazy) tells us that the benefit was a success, and over $1000 was raised to help with Richard's medical bills. Thanks to all of you who came out!

Friday, February 24, 2006 - Brasil tonight...and next

Tonight we'll be at Brasil. Early set tonight, 9-12. If you can't make it tonight don't worry. We'll be back tomorrow to do it all over again.

Thursday, February 23, 2006 - Benefit for Richard Cholakian, 4/26

On December 22, 2005, our friend and fellow musician Richard Cholakian accidentally took a metal wire brush to his eye while on a gig. If you've ever seen Richard play, you know he's enough of a crazy man for something like this to be possible. A portion of his right eye's cornea was ripped off. Ouch!

For the days that follwed, with the support of his close friends, and expert eye doctors at Northwest Medical, his eye recovered fully and came back to working condition. The doctor was amazed at the miraculous recovery.

Happiness soon turned to despair - the medical bills for ambulance fees, hospital fees, and medical specialists were over the top. But with true compassion and brotherly love, fellow musicians Steve Steele and Miltonio DeCoronado spearheaded setting up a benefit concert to help offset these costs.

Anyone who's worked in the music industry in Houston has probably met (or even played with) Richard. He's an awesome guy and needs our support. Come out to Sam's Concert Pub on the evening of Sunday, April 26th, to show your support for this pillar of our community. Drop Trio plays at 10:30.

Tuesday, February 21, 2006 - Clark's Recording Studio

Tonight we'll be at Clark's in downtown Houston. This show will be recorded and available for podcast HERE. The plan for the show is 100% improv, but we might pull out one or two new tunes as well. Check out this month's LIVE ARCHIVE to hear part of our last improv performance.

Monday, February 20, 2006 - Brain Fever

If you've not done so already, tune in to The Fevered Brain Of Radio Mike. It's an online radio show that plays lots of cool stuff. This week that cool stuff happens to include Drop Trio. Check it Out.

Sunday, February 12, 2006 - The Opolis on Saturday

The Opolis is a cool new club in downtown Norman. We shared the stage with Harmonious Monk from Tulsa, OK. Great guys who also like songs about Robots. They covered a Sly & the Family Stone song that blew us away. We'll be playing with them again in the future. Hopefully we can get them down to Houston/Austin soon.

Saturday, February 11, 2006 - Texas Jive on Friday

Texas Jive in Denton, TX is a cool place. Good pizza and giant beers. Gaah(n) and the gang (all 11) in the band Sol Kitchen were super rad. If you're in Denton make sure you go see those guys. Gaah(n)'s other band, Bagg travels around, so if they're in your town check them out. Pics from the show:

Friday, February 10, 2006 - Luna on Thursday

We, as always had a great time at Luna in San Antonio. Marcos and the gang there make us feel welcome everytime. Three sets in four hours so every song in our repertoire was played. New ones like "Lord of Misrule", "Houdini" and our new cover "Cygnus X-1" were especially fun. Here are some pics from the night:

Looking for cool podcasts? Here's a couple we can suggest.

CC 365 - A 365 day calendar of music for your iPod. A tune a day. Drop Trio's Melody-Melody was featured this past Sunday.

Live Music Records - A podcast of live shows at Clark's Recording Studio, a bar in downtown Houston. Drop Trio will be featured on Tuesday, 2/11 doing a live all-improvised set.

The Bugle Boy - Podcast of live shows from our favorite venue in La Grange, TX. Drop Trio's recent show there will be featured on the podcast soon!

RedJazz Podcast - Great jazz tracks from around the internet. A couple drop trio tunes featured in this episode.

Spot One - Our friend Ant Boogie from Collective Hallucination runs this podcast about local music issues. Look for a drop trio drop in sometime soon ...

And of course, don't forget ... Drop Trio's Live Archive Podcast - we haven't put up a new one for a minute, but we will soon ...

If you run podcast, you can legally use Drop Trio's music in your podcast. Check it out, yo.

Monday, February 06, 2006 - Bugle Pod

Thanks to Lane and all the folks at The Bugle Boy for their hospitality. The show was recorded for Podcast and will be on their site soon. Check out some of their other Podcasts HERE. The Bugle Boy is a good room with great people and yummy wine. And, as you can see they also sport a nice sunset:

Friday, February 03, 2006 - Bugle Boy

Hey there, all our friends in Houston, Austin and in between - if anybody's looking for a good show this Saturday night (2/4), join us out in La Grange, TX, for a show at The Bugle Boy - an intimate club in downtown La Grange. They've had quite the impressive roster of artists there over the last few months, and we're excited to be a part of it. Check out their web site for more info, and consider taking a road trip this weekend for some live music!

Drop Trio will play two 45 minute sets, starting at 8pm. Hope to see you there!
